I am writing to announce a leadership transition plan for the UCSF Human Research Protection Program (comprised of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Quality Improvement Unit (QIU)). Effective April 3, 2017, Michael C. Roach, MHSA, JD, CIP, CHRC joined UCSF as the Interim Director of the HRPP. Michael will assume the responsibilities formerly held by Dr. Chris Ryan, who retired from UCSF on March 31, 2017.

Michael is a Managing Director at Aegis Compliance and Ethics, and has over 30 years of experience in the health care industry. For the last 10 years, Michael’s work has focused on research compliance matters, including human research protections regulations and clinical trials billing compliance.

The focus of Michael’s tenure at UCSF is to support operations during the search for a new HRPP Director. I request your continued support for the HRPP staff during this leadership change. A team of experienced staff from the HRPP, Clinical & Translational Science Institute (CTSI), and Office of Ethics & Compliance will assist Michael with his transition into the role of Interim Director.
