ChatGPT Enterprise
UCSF ChatGPT Enterprise – a data-secure and user-private AI platform powered by OpenAI’s frontier AI models and capabilities.
- ChatGPT Enterprise is meant to replace the use of UCSF’s Versa Chat (Web and iOS).
- Like Versa, the platform will also continue to provide users with private and secure P3 & P4 access to generative AI in accordance with UCSF’s institutional data-protection policies. The platform can therefore be used to summarize and analyze PII.
Versa
UCSF Versa – a UCSF IT-supported Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem that connects AI tools with UCSF data and systems.
For initial applications:
- If the investigator expects to train a new model, or refine an existing model, on the Versa platform, this use must be described in the protocol and disclosed in the consent form
Already Approved Protocols Now Using the Versa Platform:
- There is no need to submit a modification if the study is approved to collect and analyze Electronic Health Record (EHR) or Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data and subsequently the investigator decides to leverage Versa for additional analyses.
FAQs
Is it permitted to use any LLM with UCSF data assets, even de-identified assets, outside the Versa or ChatGPT platforms?
It depends. While the UCSF platforms are preferred and secure, their assets may not meet the needs of the specific research. The study team should follow the IRB guidance associated with use of any third-party app, software, or platform:
A security risk assessment by UCSF IT Security AND Data Transfer Agreement by the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR -- Industry Contracts Division) must be completed if your study involves: the collection, transmission, or storage of information when that data will be shared with or be accessible to any non-UCSF entity (e.g., pharmaceutical companies, UCSF Affiliated Institutions) or individual. If data will be shared with or hosted by a vendor (e.g., cloud software services), a security risk assessment and UCSF procurement contract must be completed.
Request a consultation with the AI Tiger Team for assistance in determining what measures are appropriate for the specific Generative AI platform not available within the Versa secure environment.
