Status Update (May 19, 2026):
The submission deadline for new Exempt, Expedited, and Not Human Subjects (NHSR) studies in iRIS has now passed. As of 11:59 p.m. on May 19, these submissions are no longer being accepted in iRIS. Study teams should prepare to submit new studies in Research Gateway IRB beginning July 1, 2026. The bulletin below is being retained for historical reference during the iRIS to Research Gateway IRB transition.
Original Guidance Published May 15, 2026:
As the transition from iRIS to Research Gateway IRB approaches, the IRB has updated guidance on several submission types based on the volume of work that can reasonably be processed before the system transition.
Most important: If your submission does not require IRB approval before Wednesday, July 1, 2026, we strongly encourage you to wait and submit it in Research Gateway IRB after launch to avoid unnecessary duplicate work.
